clockwork

Just like clockwork the Union Pacific coal train passes through the area twice a day, heading east. The empty coal cars head back west each evening.

The railroads were a make it or break it element for many small towns. In one rural area a huge courthouse was built with the thought that the railroad would bring a booming economy with it. The rail line was finally laid down, much further south and the huge courthouse was left as a ghostly monument to a dream that never came to be.

That's a beauty. and I know trains. pretty much the complete opposite of the train experience I have. It doesn't even seem like there is light in this photo. Just colors.

  3. Thanks as always for the comments.

Travis - the sky was so incredibly blue. This was just a couple days after the "big weather" photo, and just down the road.

Pablo- no, unfortunately I don't a photo, although I do intend to go back now that I'm into picture taking. The courthouse sits out in the middle of nowhere in Iowa.....near Creston.

  4. That's so strange. Taking a look at your pictures I realized that your Illinois countryside looks exactly like my Quebec countryside... Mine is probably very different in winter... So COOOOOOOLD. :o)

  6. I fell asleep many nights to the sound of the Florida East Coast freight train as it lumbered through town. I guess that's why I love the sound of a train in the distance even today.
