One of the sunflowers has dropped it's head, unable to maintain the weight of the heavy seeds on a dying stalk.
I've lived in a place where beautiful flowers grew year-round. It was boring in it's sameness. I look forward to winter's blast...it brings a different magic.
Sunflowers are one of my favorites. I love to watch the cardinals sit on the back of the hanging heads and reach around below to pick the seeds. I've found fist-sized piles of sunflower shells cupped in the back of a large head, left by a satiated bird.
ReplyDeleteI went to my first Old Thresher's show over the weekend. What a blast! It was so much fun! I'll definitely be going again!!!
ReplyDeleteI am finally in Big Rock and it's so beautiful here. Plowmatch was great. Were you there? I thought I'd know you with your camera if I saw you.
ReplyDeleteMark - Yes, it's wonderful to watch the birds feed on these seed heads.
ReplyDeleteAva - These threshing shows are awesome. I've always said if there's a piece of machinery there's someone willing to collect it and maintain it. I can't imagine the work and expense involved in owning this huge beasts.
Judy - Finally! I'm so glad you're back in the midwest, if only for a visit. Enjoy every minute. Fall is probably one of the best times. Sorry I didn't make the Plowmatch...you know what they say, there's always next year! Let me know if you're going to be in the area for awhile. There are a couple of other interesting events coming up. Also check the Farmer's Wife Back Porch....I've got to get back to updating that blog too!
Hi Zanne,
ReplyDeleteI haven't dropped in since you went "fishing". That's one tired looking sunflower.
Looking forward to your fall pics as it is still 'cane season here.
