receding
Warm temperatures have revealed winter's dirty little secret - dirty snow.
We are entering the ugly winter, the opposite of "sparkling diamond snow under a full moon." Everything is looking grey and dirty. Even bright afternoon sunlight doesn't improve the view much.
Give me a fresh snowfall any day.

I always hate this part of the snowfall, too. If it could just be the beautiful sparkle of white....then be completely gone, sans mud, it would be so much nicer!
I'll bet that old snow was hard as granite too.
It's looking pretty ugly around here too, but a "cover up" snow is in the forecast. Somehow I always seem to forget this part of the winter.
