destruction

I struggle to think what the precipitating factor was in the collapse of this barn. Perhaps the beams were weakened by age and a significant snowfall pushed it into the danger zone. It must have been incredibly loud, the sound of danger itself.

There's no possible way to enter besides the use of a telephoto lens. It's a tangle of wood and the previously mentioned corrugated metal. At the upper edge a window is curiously positioned, no longer needed to provide light to the once dark interior. The hay is long gone, as are the farmers who worked this land.

Someday I should take myself up there to this place you call Illinois and spend a day wandering the backroads with you. Really, I should.

I agree, you should. The drive from the Mississippi river town of Savanna east is quite indicative of northern Illinois.

Stay tuned Pablo because the farmers wife is poised to take a road trip once a week and report back to the blog.

I've been meaning to blog about a barn destruction I noticed recently. The barn had been unused and in a state of disrepair for years, leaning further and further in, but the last wind storm of winter did it in. And I imagined the sound of it, groaning then crashing. Ouch. I hate to see these barns go.
