happy halloween

This pumpkin greet kids from the porch of a beautiful old farmhouse in La Fox. The town area consists of less than a dozen homes, so I don't imagine they'll get alot of trick-or-treat action.

Screen porches always remind me of author Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings home in Cross Creek Florida. Her good sized porch includes a bed (sleeping porch), a table, her typewriter, a small bookshelf and a chair. Marjorie would sit on the porch and write, looking out over an orange grove.

If you're ever in the area around Gainesville, don't miss a visit to Cross Creek. Step back into old Florida, complete with a cracker dog run house out back.

The cord running from the back of the pumpkin makes me wonder if it's ceramic.

Nice shot! The fox looks like he hears someone opening the door.

I expect you are right. Even here we didn't have too many. I saw Dad and for every pack of peanut butter cups he gave out, he ate one.

There were a few Batmen, Spidermen, and princesses. The two cutest were a baby lion in his wagon looking totally unimpressed with it all and a VERY tall Scooby Doo dog.

I think this is one of those foam material pumpkins. Which is OK if you plan to leave the decoration out for awhile. The wild swing of temperaturess causes pumpkins to rot really fast around here.

We didn't have alot of kids which left me with one really big bowl of candy. The cutest was a little girl who was a mermaid. She was very enthusiastic!

We had a good number, but they came in packs. The night was about perfect here in Kansas City. (What's the "Florida" place I keep hearing about?)

I really like this one! It looks like a beautiful porch. I love Halloween! We had 13 kids come to the door. An unluckly number on a scary Halloween night! The treat bags are bigger in the country where there are fewer kids.

Zanne,
Been there, done that and you are right, Marjories place is a treasure.
"The Yearling" ...what a great tale.

One rainy Halloween when my kids were little, a car hit a junction box and knocked out power between Randall & Burlington Roads, up to Silver Glen. The kids were disappointed that is was too dark and wet out to trick'n'treat; so we loaded up the car and took them for a drive, just to see the candle-lit pumpkins on people's porches. At the corner of Denker & Bolcum Roads we encountered a horseman, and without streetlights it took us a few minutes to realize it was "headless" horseman!! We fled back to bright civilization -- the Pizza Hut, as I recall, but ever since, when passing by Denker Road on a murky night, I wonder, is he still out there?.....
