faith

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

This is architectural detail from the English Congregational Church in Big Rock, Illinois. This church is noteworthy because it is very unusual in this area. I've never seen a building with it's features anywhere in the midwest. At the top of this steeple is a cross/shape reminiscent of a ships wheel. Keep in mind that we are thousands of miles away from any ocean.

I love your site, especially on Sunday afternoon when you do your "faith" entry. I like the small churches in Illinois, many founded and still populated by two or three large families. Shouse Chapel in Bible Grove ran 29 in Sunday School for 4 decades. 75% were relatives of my dad's family. My uncle was leader of the Sunday School, his wife played the piano, a great-aunt played the violin, other aunts taught the little children and my dad usually did the preaching when we visited on a Sunday the circuit preacher wasn't scheduled.

Ah yes....circuit preachers and circuit judges. A thing of the past.
